An honest, layered guide to the city — how we rate places, how we choose them, and why we think Belfast rewards the curious.
In Belfast is a city guide written by people who love walking this place and arguing about it over a pint.
We started In Belfast because most travel write-ups felt the same — a ranked list, a score out of ten, a photo and a shrug. Belfast deserves better. It's a city of layers, where a leaning Victorian clock, a shipyard dry dock and a peace wall can sit within a short walk of each other, each carrying a different piece of the story.
You won't find marks out of ten here. Every place gets our plain-English rating — who it's best to go with, the best day and time to turn up, and the right season to see it at its best — followed by a one-line verdict. It's the advice we'd give a friend.
We include only what's genuinely worth a visitor's limited time — and we say why.
Titanic Belfast and the shipyard heritage sit at the heart of it — the sights no first visit should skip.
The markets, snugs and streets that locals are fond of, where the city feels lived-in rather than staged.
Museums, hills and walls that make sense of how Belfast came to be — and what it carries now.
Out of date, or a place we've missed? We'd genuinely like to hear it.
